The book of Revelation is quite an intriguing book.
It is supposed to be a “revelation”, yet it is filled with so many symbolisms that made its exact interpretation difficult. However, if we examine closely the introduction to the book, we can discover the important keys that would assist us in understanding what Revelation is saying to us today.
Subjective – Christ is the Revealer of the prophecy. It is His
Objective – Christ is the main content of the prophecy. It discloses Who He is. The prophecy is to reveal Jesus in the forthcoming events. It is to help us focus on Jesus in our current events.
It is mainly about the future (v. 1)
It gives a general outline of the future events, not a detailed chronology of events.
There are two important words here: “must” and “shortly/soon”
It is for the Lord’s servant [“doulos] (v. 1-2).
= for those who are actively serving
= for every believer who loves the Lord
It provides a blessing for the readers (v. 3)
“Blessed” (repeated twice) is guaranteed to everyone who read (hear) and obey.
Unless we see the fact that God is in absolute control… that Christ is actively involved in our current events… it is quite easy to lose heart and be overwhelmed. But Jesus is alive and active in our world today. That is the reality!
