SIN
COST YOU SOMETHING
Joshua 7
by Bro. Myles Rumion
Last time in our study of the book of Joshua, we learned about the fall of the mighty city Jericho. Although Israel was at a huge disadvantage because of Jericho’s walls, Joshua and his army prevailed through God’s provision. When God’s people move forward to conquer the next city Ai, they are met with loss of confidence and a humbling loss. The Lord then speaks to Joshua explaining to him that sin has entered the camp, which is the reason why God didn’t allow them to win the battle at Ai. Joshua makes it his duty to deal with the sin, and only after dealing with it, does God allow his people to win and move forward to the next battle.
There is one important lesson to be learned in this passage: There are some sins that must be dealt with in order to move forward in our relationship with God. As Christians, we must ask ourselves, “Are we allowing any sin to take refuge in our hearts?” Whether it be unforgiveness, sexual immorality, pride, or idolatry, we must not allow sin to take root in our hearts. We must be holy and set apart for God’s good work. |
